E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase RBX1

RBX1 belongs to RING-box family. It is known to function in a complex with CUL4 and DDB1. This CUL4-DDB-ROC1 complex is reported to ubiquitinate H3 and H4 histones during UV-induced DNA damage response. This helps in the recruitment of repair factors to the DNA (PMID: 16678110). It is also part of a SWI/SNF chromatin remodelling complex that consists of BAF250, elongin C (Elo C) and cullin 2 (Cul2) and mediates H2B lysine 120 ubiquitination. Reports suggest the role of RBX1 in maintenance of genome integrity (PMID: 21115485).
