E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase BRE1A

RNF20 belongs to BRE1 family. It is specific for monoubiquitination of histone H2B at lysine 120. RNF20 is found in a complex with RNF40 and is involved in the regulation of Hox genes (PMID: 16307923). RNF20 is known to regulate gene expression of multiple targets by H2BK120 ubiquitination activity and is supposed to function as a tumour suppressor by modulating cell growth (PMID: 18832071). It is also recruited on double strand breaks and is activated upon ATM mediated phosphorylation (PMID: 21362549).
