DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit
It belongs to the PI3/PI4 Kinase family. Specifically phosphorylates H2A.X at the Serine 139 site during double stranded break repairs caused by IR radiations. Also mediates the Non-homologous end joining (PMID: 14627815) (PMID: 15059890). Autophosphorylation of DNAPK regulates the choice of DSB repair by either Homologous recombination (HR) or Non Homologous End Joining (NHEJ) pathways (PMID: 16314509). Oct1 transcription factor is phosphorylated at multiple sites by DNA-PK in order to stabilise it and provide pro-survival signals to the cell after DNA damage (PMID: 17213819). GAPDH performs nitrosylation of DNAPK via protein-protein transfer of the nitrosyl group (PMID: 20972425).
