Serine/threonine-protein kinase haspin
Haspin is a member of Ser/Thr protein kinase family.It mediates the phosphorylation of H3 at Threonine 3 position. Haspin is essential for the regulation of centromeric cohesin during mitotic phase of cell cycle (PMID: 15681610, PMID: 17084365). Knockdown studies with Haspin emphasise the fact that its important for chromosomal alignment at the metaphase plate (PMID: 15846065). Haspin mediated H3T3ph is often found to be associated with H3K4me3 and H3R8me2 and is thought to work in combination to provide faster progression through metaphase-anaphase checkpoint (PMID: 19622635). Haspin catalysed H3T3ph marks guide the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC) to the centromere (PMID: 20705812). H3T3 phosphorylation is shown to inhibit TFIID binding at H3K4me mark and thus regulate transcription (PMID: 20953165).
