Histone deacetylase 2

HDAC2 belongs to the Class I histone deacetylase group (PMID: 18292778). A non redundant function of HDAC2 has been shown in sensitizing cells of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma towards the tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and thus suggesting therapeutic role (PMID: 20398369). Recent report demonstrates the role of HDAC2 in HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) in humans and suggest its therapeutic value (PMID: 21315782). HDAC2 along with HDAC1 are recruited at the double stranded break sites and play an important role in DNA damage repair to promote Nonhomologous end joining(NHEJ)(PMID: 20802485). HDAC2 helps in the regulation of various p53-target genes (PMID: 20190809). HDAC2 is also shown to be an important molecule in memory formation and synapse plasticity by negatively regulating the two phenomena (PMID: 19424149).
