Histone deacetylase 6

HDAC6 belongs to the Class IIb histone deacetylase group (PMID: 18292778). Disruption of HDAC6 affects the Hsp90 activity in human leukemia cells (PMID: 15937340). It mediates the deacetylation of acetylated tubulin residues inside the cell and controls cell motility (PMID: 12024216, PMID: 12486003). Also plays a role in immune synapse organization and antigen specific acetylation of microtubules (PMID: 15084271). HDAC6 is also important for the formation of aggresomes (PMID: 14675537). Inhibition of HDAC6 causes DNA damage and sensitizes cancer cells towards anti-cancer agents (PMID: 21037108).
