NAD-dependent deacetylase sirtuin-6

SIRT6 belongs to NAD+ dependent Class III of histone deacetylases. It plays a crucial role in the maintenance of telomeres and is involved in Werner syndrome (PMID: 18337721). SIRT6 is reported to deacetylate the promoters of NF-kB target genes thereby being involved in premature and normal aging (PMID: 19135889). Loss of SIRT6 has been shown to cause premature lethality and aging-related degeneration. SIRT6 is also supposed to be involved in normal DNA repair (PMID: 16439206). It is also reported to mediate the deacetylation of H3K56 at telomeric region in a cell cycle dependent manner (PMID: 19625767).
