Histone deacetylase 8

HDAC8 belongs to the Class I histone deacetylase (PMID: 18292778). It is shown to be expressed in many human tissues and cancer cell lines and can act as transcriptional repressor via its deacetylase activity (PMID: 10748112). c-AMP dependent protein kinase A mediates inhibition of HDAC8 via phosphorylation which leads to hyperacetylation of H3 and H4 histones (PMID: 14701748). HDAC8 regulates the activity of telomerase enzyme via PKA phosphosylation which further contributes to tumorigenesis (PMID: 16809764).
