Lysine-specific demethylase 4A
KDM4A belongs to the JHDM3 family of demethylase proteins. JMJD2A is known to catalyse the demethylation of H3K9me3 and H3K36me3 to di- and mono-methylated state but not to the unmethylated state (PMID: 16603238). It associates with retinoblastoma protein (pRb) and regulates E2F target genes, demonstrating its role in oncogenesis (PMID: 15927959). JMJD2A is reported to interact with N-CoR (nuclear receptor corepressor) and regulate the expression of human achaete scute-like homologue 2 (ASCL2/Hash2) gene which is important for fetoplacental development (PMID: 16024779). JMJD2A is expressed in a cell cycle dependent manner and is reported to timely regulate DNA replication by inhibiting the HP1 gamma occupancy on the chromatin (PMID: 21145482).
