Lysine-specific demethylase 3A
KDM3A belongs to the JHDM2 family of demethylases and catalyses the demethylation of H3K9 mono- and di-methylation marks. This activity is also responsible for androgen receptor mediated transcriptional activation of target genes (PMID: 16603237). It is also involved in the reprogramming of adult neural stem cells (PMID: 18535151). Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF-1?) is known to induce expression of KDM3A gene and it is shown to be upregulated in renal and colon cancers (PMID: 18984585, PMID: 19858293). JMJD1A are subject to inhibition by nickel ions which might interfere in normal DNA repair process (PMID: 20042601).
