Lysine-specific histone demethylase 1B
LSD2 belongs to the Lysine-specific demethylase (LSD) category of demethylase. It recognises the dimethylated H3K9 mark and carries out its demethylation. LSD2 is important to maintain a transcriptionally active state of the chromatin (PMID: 20670891). Demethylation of H3K9 at the NF-kB target gene promoters helps in increased binding of NF-kB and further activation of several inflammatory genes (PMID: 20832726).
