Lysine-specific demethylase 5A
JARID1A belongs to the JARID1 family of demethylases. RBP2 is reported to demethylate H3K4me2 and H3K4me3 which is important for transcriptional regulation during development and differentiation (PMID: 17320161, PMID: 18722178). KDM5A plays a crucial role in cancer cell subpopulations where transient expressions lead to modified chromatin state which contributes to the drug tolerance in these populations of cells. This is shown to have important therapeutic implications in treatment of cancer (PMID: 20371346). In cancer cells, hypoxia is reported to target JARID1A and inhibit its activity leading to increased methylated state and change in gene expression patterns (PMID: 20406991).
