Histone acetyltransferase MYST2

Hbo1 belongs to the MYST class of acetyltransferases. It interacts with the origin recognition complex (ORC) and this interaction is evolutionarily conserved. Hence this ORC-mediated histone H4 acetylation is supposed to play a role in DNA replication via licensing of replication origins and gene regulation. It is responsible for the bulk acetylation of H4 (PMID: 10438470, PMID: 20129055). Hbo1 protein level is shown to be upregulated in carcinomas of the testis, ovary, breast, stomach/esophagus, and bladder (PMID: 19393168).
