Histone acetyltransferase KAT5

Kat5 is also known as HTATIP and Tip60. It belongs to the MYST family of histone acetyltransferases. It has been shown that Tip60 is upregulated in the prescence of a Salmonella protein Ssef, which further facilitates the efficient replication of the pathogen inside the macrophages (PMID: 20796290).Tip60 is found to be downregulated in gastric cancers (PMID: 21273583). Tip60 is recruited by E2F family transcription factors leading to promoter acetylation of E2F responsive genes, hence affecting cell cycle progression (PMID: 15121871). It also plays a significant role in cellular apoptosis, DNA damage response and maintainance of genome stability (PMID: 16698308). Human papillomavirus is known to destabilise Tip60 and thereby derepress its own promoters leading to inhibition of apoptotic pathways, cell proliferation and survival (PMID: 20542002). Tip60 is overexpressed in cisplatin resistant cancer cells (PMID: 18458078).
